March Madness – Villains Bracket

Spring – a time when a young man’s mind turns to brackets and college basketball.  I confess to not following the sport, but that won’t stop us from bastardizing their concept for our own entertainment!

So today and tomorrow we will the present the entries into the inaugural Half Eaten Sandwich Single-Elimination Tournament of 64 of our Favorite Comic Book Heroes and Villains, or the HESSET64FCBHV!  Frankly, it’s our version of March Madness but for comic book geeks.  This year we’re keeping it simple – just DC and Marvel.

Don’t expect to see Galactus, Thanos, Darkseid, Mesphito, or Apocalypse types with their god-like powers.  Or Mister Mxyzptlk or Bat-Mite and their inter-dimensional mischief.  Just ol’ classic bad guys and good guys.

So below I present the 32 villains for your consideration!  The winner of this half will face the heroic winner of the second half.

Some intriguing match-ups in the DC Villains brackets!  Lex Luthor stands as the #1 seed and will face off against #16 Cheetah, and while we don’t expect much out of that the duel, I expect sparks to fly in the #3/#14 match-up of Ra’s al Ghul and the Joker!

And the #8/#9 battle of the O’s (Despero and Metallo) is likely to be a classic.

I think a strong argument could be made that Vandal Savage should have gotten a higher seed than #5.

Barring any major upsets, I think we’re looking at a Lex Luthor/Brainiac battle to see who goes into the Final Four to battle the top Marvel Villain.

While things in the DC Villain bracket doesn’t hold much in the way of surprises, the Marvel Villain bracket is a shock.

The surprise #1 seed is Cassandra Nova, not Magneto, Dr. Doom, or Kang.  While her first round match-up with Arcade looks to be a cakewalk, the second clash with either the Brood Queen or Kingpin will be a test.

An old rivalry between the Sentinels and Magneto is reborn in the first round duel of #3 and #14.

The sleeper in the Marvel Villain bracket has to be the Purple Man and his mind-control powers.
